My Search for the Fluffiest, Most Cloud-like Duvet

I asked people if they had a duvet that they loved. They did, and now I do too.

I recently went on a mission to find a new duvet insert. I had to borrow the duvet from my guest bedroom and found that it was so much better than the one on my bed. Hence my motivation.

It all started when my baby had an accident on my bed, and it soaked through the duvet cover to the duvet. It all had to go in the wash. Since it was later at night, it wasn’t going to dry by the time we went to bed. So, I grabbed the duvet from our guest bed. Boy oh boy, what a treat that was. From the moment I crawled into bed, I felt like I was lying on a cloud – well, the cloud was on top of me technically. The point is, I realized I was missing out. The guest room duvet is made of down, which it turns out makes all the difference. Why had I been settling for down alternative for all these years? I love my guests, but I think I should have a bed that’s as comfortable as theirs! Hence my hunt for a new duvet insert to fit our king size bed.

I figured I’d start by asking people if they had one they loved. It turns out crowdsourcing was a smart idea. I got so many detailed responses that by chance happened to cover a wide range of brands and prices. I was looking for key words like “fluffy”, “cloud-like”, “luxurious”, “best sleep of my life”. Then, I did my own research to confirm these were in fact worthy options before considering myself or passing along to you. I was blown away by the quality components of these duvets, backed up by super positive reviews/ratings.

In the process I also got recommendations for pillow inserts and bedding. So I’ll share those too so you’ll have the full package to put the whole bed together and enjoy the most cozy, luxurious sleep of your life.

Notes: Most brands offer different weights and sizes. For the sake of comparison, I focused on midweight and king-size, but of course, you can customize to your needs.

Pillows

Costco Down Pillows

  • There’s long been a rumor that Costco pillows are surprisingly good and affordable. A family friend who doesn’t spare expenses on quality home furnishings confirmed that they’re the real deal. If they’re good enough for her, they’re good enough for me. So, I purchased some for my guest room. I tested them out when I was sleeping in there recently (in the first weeks of bringing my baby home, I’d sneak in there to get sleep while my husband was on duty).

Bedding

Boll & Branch

  • This bedding has been my go-to for a long time. It feels so luxurious getting into bed. I prefer a crisp white cotton sheet, and I go for one with a little bit of detail, which I think adds polish. The cotton actually get softer over time. Plus, I really appreciate that it is organic cotton, and Fair Trade Certified at that.
